Regarding infrastructure, Phu Quoc City is set to build an airport that meets 4E classification, featuring comprehensive upgrades to increase terminal capacity, cargo facilities, aircraft parking areas, and runways. Phu Quoc International Airport will be expanded to cover 1,073 ha, with the existing runway extended to 3.5 km. Additionally, a second runway, 3.3 km in length, will be constructed, along with a new international terminal (T2) designed to accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually.

Meanwhile, Rach Gia Airport is also undergoing an expansion, covering approximately 200 ha. This includes extending the runway to 2.4 km and building a new terminal to accommodate larger aircraft, providing travellers with more options when visiting Kien Giang Province.

Beyond air travel, An Thoi International Seaport will be upgraded to cover 100 ha, allowing it to welcome the world’s largest cruise ships, such as the Icon of the Seas, which can carry between 7,000 and 10,000 passengers. Several key roadways will also be expanded and improved, with urgent efforts to complete infrastructure projects for the city’s synchronised development.

The APEC multifunctional complex is a key project expected to boost Phu Quoc’s economy and tourism industry, as well as that of Kien Giang Province. With a total capacity of nearly 15,000 people, the complex will offer a wide range of services, including event organisation, accommodation, shopping, and entertainment.

In addition to a conference and exhibition centre, an international press centre, and a central plaza, the complex will feature hotels, a duty-free shopping mall, and a multifunctional cultural and artistic venue. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the complex will be capable of hosting large-scale artistic performances. The cultural and artistic centre will also include a dining space with the capacity to serve between 3,000 and 4,000 guests.

Alongside existing landmarks such as the Kiss Bridge, the Hon Thom Cable Car, and the Kiss of the Sea show, the launch of the APEC multifunctional complex will not only contribute to the success of APEC 2027 but also create a new symbol for Phu Quoc, delivering long-term value to the local tourism sector.

APEC 2027 is seen as a historic opportunity for Phu Quoc, but it also presents several challenges, particularly regarding the timely completion of key projects. To ensure that construction meets deadlines, in addition to strong support from local authorities, the active participation of strategic investors is essential for Phu Quoc to achieve its ambitious goals.

Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board at Sun Group — a key investor in the region, stated: “APEC 2027 will be a major milestone, serving as a driving force to establish Phu Quoc as a leading tourism and economic hub in the region and the world. With determination, responsibility, and a strong aspiration to enhance this land, we are committed to working alongside the government, local authorities, and the people of Kien Giang and Phu Quoc, mobilising all necessary resources to realise this vision.”
