The event was attended by Politburo members including Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; and Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Inspection Commission.
In his opening remarks, Nguyen Xuan Thang, a Standing Member of the Central Steering Committee on Science and Technology Development, Innovation and Digital Transformation highlighted that AI offers significant benefits for managers, businesses, and researchers by accelerating the development of practical applications that enhance daily life.
However, he also warned of the risks posed by AI, which could impact political, economic, cultural, defence, and security sectors. He stressed the urgent need to define a strategic direction for AI development and to propose policy solutions tailored to Vietnam’s context.
Nguyen Duy Ngoc, the Standing Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Science and Technology Development, Innovation and Digital Transformation, reinforced this view, noting that the forum was crucial for assessing AI’s current state in Vietnam and formulating a roadmap for its responsible adoption.
This initiative supports Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of December 22, 2024, which calls for breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation—a pivotal move for the nation.
Experts at the forum observed that digital transformation is central to the fourth industrial revolution and AI is its key technology. They urged Vietnam to actively participate in international AI discussions and enhance its national role in promoting responsible AI practices. Enacting dedicated AI legislation was recommended, while updating current laws to clearly define the responsibilities and obligations of technology companies, along with establishing robust monitoring mechanisms.
