ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Forum opens

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Plus Youth Volunteer Forum and the ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Awards, officially opened in the central province of Quang Binh on August 24, with the theme “Volunteerism for a sustainable and resilient community”.

The event, organised by the National Committee for Youth in Vietnam (NCYV) and the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMYU), attracted the participation of 50 volunteers from ASEAN countries and Japan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary of the HCMYU and Standing Vice Chairman of the NCYV Nguyen Tuong Lam, said over the past three years, the world has witnessed and experienced unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several volunteering projects and activities have been implemented throughout the region and around the world, to overcome challenges posed by the pandemic, he noted, adding that a network of volunteer individuals and organisations will be built in the region after the event, helping spread the volunteerism spirit and jointly contribute to the recovery and development of the region and the world.

The ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Forum and ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Awards are expected to create a good opportunity for ASEAN plus youths to exchange ideas and experience volunteerism and introduce the culture and people of Vietnam, as well as the country’s socio-economic development to international friends.

Outstanding individuals and organisations from ASEAN plus countries will be honoured at the event which will run until August 27.
