80 years ago, under the leadership of the Party, the Nam Ky Upraising was sparked off in 20 of the 21 cities and provinces in the southern region, shaking the ruling regime of French colonialists and their henchmen and destroying the French ruling governments in some southern localities.

Although it didn’t end up successfully, the uprising vividly illustrated the people’s strength and trust in the Party in the national struggle for independence and freedom.

It also provided valuable lessons for the Vietnamese revolution while consolidating patriotism and solidarity among people from all walks of life.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of Party Central Committee and Secretary the municipal Party Committee, Nguyen Van Nen stressed that following the spirit of the Nam Ky Uprising and the glorious traditions of the nation, the city’s Party Committee, authorities and people are determined to unite together in constructing and developing Ho Chi Minh City, of the honour to be named after beloved President Ho Chi Minh.

He called on joint effort to bring the Resolution adopted by the 11th municipal Party Congress into reality, enhance Party building, and mobilise further efforts to facilitate the city’s rapid and sustainable development.

Similar ceremonies observing the 80th anniversary of Nam Ky Uprising were also held in the provinces of Tien Giang and Soc Trang the same day, during which participants reviewed the fierce but glorious days of the uprising, and paid tribute to those who laid down their lives for the nation’s freedom and independence.
