“We are very delighted to have secured the aggregate triumph today as promised to the fans. There are no words to describe that joy,” Chung told reporters after the match.

“When the referee blew the final whistle, we all burst with joy. I rushed onto the field to celebrate with the players,” he said, extending his thanks to the whole team for their hard work in reaping such sweet results.

Chuong Thi Kieu and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy got on the scoresheet as Vietnam edged past Chinese Taipei to realise their World Cup dream.

Mai Duc Chung’s side won the playoff round with six points following two successive wins, standing three points ahead of Chinese Taipei and six above bottom-placed Thailand.

In an interview granted to FIFA reporters, captain Huynh Nhu did not hide her joy and pride in what the Vietnamese team have achieved.

“It’s a great feeling. It came as a result of the whole team’s efforts. We fought resiliently from the first days until the final moment. I would like to thank all my teammates and especially the Vietnamese football fans who always support, follow and cheer for the Vietnamese women’s team,” Nhu stated.

Huynh Nhu (#9) plays a big part in Vietnam’s journey to conquer their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She asked the home fans to continue to support the national women’s team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, while conveying a message to the young players that they can fulfil their dreams provided they keep trying.
