Meaningful activities mark 100th birth anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro

Through the series of activities “President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro: A special and steadfast bond”, the great lives, careers, and noble personalities of President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro will continue to resonate profoundly among the public, especially the younger generation, inspiring pride and a sense of responsibility for the future.

On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Cuban Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, a great friend and close comrade of the Vietnamese people (August 13, 1926–2026), and the 66th anniversary of Viet Nam–Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960–2026), on the morning of August 4, the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace coordinated with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Viet Nam to organise a series of activities titled “President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro: A special and steadfast bond”.

The series comprises four events: a documentary photo exhibition; a thematic display titled “President Ho Chi Minh and Cuba”; a ceremony to receive documents presented by the Cuban Embassy in Viet Nam; and the introduction of publications about President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasised that the 100th birth anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro is a special occasion to remember and honour the outstanding leader of the Cuban revolution, a great friend and extremely close comrade of the Vietnamese people.

Emphasising that historical and cultural identity has always been a durable bridge bringing countries and peoples around the world closer together, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong asserted that through the series of activities, Viet Nam continues to affirm the important role of cultural diplomacy in consolidating trust and strengthening the faithful brotherly solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States, and peoples of Viet Nam and Cuba.

Highlighting the significance of the meaningful series of activities held in Viet Nam to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes remarked that this serves as vivid evidence of the special friendship, traditional solidarity, and exemplary relationship that Cuba and Viet Nam have worked hard to nurture. It is also a profound expression of the respect and sincere affection that generations of Vietnamese people have always held for the historic leader of the Cuban revolution.

Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes highlighted that throughout his glorious revolutionary career, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro devoted great efforts to Viet Nam’s struggle for national liberation and national construction.

The ambassador expressed his hope that, through this meaningful series of activities, generations of Cuban and Vietnamese people will forever preserve and continue to nurture the friendship meticulously forged by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh.

At the event, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes presented documents to the Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace. The gesture underscores the shared interest of the Presidential Palace Relic Site and the Cuban Embassy in preserving and promoting the legacies of President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
