In his opening speech, Director of the Museum, Nguyen Anh Minh said that the sketches were drawn right at the southern front during the 1954-1975 period by acclaimed painter-soldiers including Thai Ha, Huynh Phuong Dong, Le Lam, and Nguyen Tan Luc.
Utilising assorted mediums of watercolour, pencil, and iron pen, the painter-soldiers featured the images of the resilient Vietnamese liberation army and people in the southern region during the fight against foreign invaders.
The sketches are part of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Museum’s collection of 4,000 paintings created during the country’s resistance war against US imperialists.
They also recounted historical events and life on revolutionary bases while portraying soldiers and people.
The exhibition will run until May 8 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.
