Book on poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu released

A book entitled ‘Nguyen Dinh Chieu - The World Cultural Celebrity’ has been released to mark the 200th birth anniversary of the celebrated poet.

A ceremony to introduce the book was held on June 28 in Ben Tre Province by the Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House and the Ben Tre Provincial Political School.

The book includes two chapters, with the first one grouping articles of various researchers on the life of Nguyen Dinh Chieu and the second one introducing poems and literary works penned by Nguyen Dinh Chieu.

An online version of the book also debuted on Stbook.vn and Thuviencoso.vn on the occasion.

Nguyen Dinh Chieu (1822 – 1888), also known as teacher Chieu, Trong Phu and Hoi Trai, was born in Binh Duong District, Gia Dinh Province (now District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

He was a patriotic teacher, physician and poet of the south of Vietnam during the second half of the 19th century.

He is best known for his most prominent epic “Luc Van Tien” (The Tale of Luc Van Tien), which was written in “Nom” (the old Chinese-based Vietnamese script) in the 1850s. The work has been translated into multiple languages, including French, English and Japanese.
