Da Lat Railway Station officially becomes destination on tourism map

The Da Lat railway station in Da Lat City, in the Central Highland Province of Lam Dong, was officially formally recognised as a destination on the national tourism map, at a ceremony on July 11.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Director of Lam Dong Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trung Kien noted, that Da Lat also attracts tourists alongside unique tourism products, such as sightseeing, resorts, ecotourism, and conferences, thanks to its unique cultural heritages. In particular, Da Lat Railway Station is an indispensable part of Da Lat and the Central Highlands' development history.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued a decision, officially recognising the Da Lat Railway Station, managed by the Vietnam Railways Corporation, as a tourist destination. Under the decision, the Vietnam Railways Corporation is responsible for fully complying with the provisions of the Law on Tourism and related legal regulations, in the tourism management and operation at the station.

Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Railways Corporation, Tran Anh Tuan noted, that with the desire to make the station a destination of culture, arts, history and heritage, the Vietnam Railway Corporation has upgraded and developed various transport products on the Da Lat – Trai Mat route, attracting a large number of visitors.

In the first six months of 2024, the station welcomed over 275,200 visitors, equal to 111.6% compared to the same period in 2023.

Dalat Railway Station was built in 1932 and completed in 1938, with an altitude of over 1,500 metres above sea level. It is the main station on the former Thap Cham-Da Lat railway route.

The station is a unique architectural structure inspired by the Langbiang mountain range and the communal house of the Central Highlands. It is the only railway station in the Central Highlands region, integral to the history of the development of the city and considered the most beautiful historic railway station in Indochina.

Dalat Railway Station is currently used for tourism exploration, with the 7km Dalat-Tram Mat railway route allowing tourists to admire the beauty of the mountainous city, both day and night. With its special architectural and cultural values, the Da Lat Railway Station was recognised as a national historic relic site in 2001.
