The exhibition features the display of six sculptures and 25 paintings created by Mukai between July and October this year, during his time staying in Hanoi.

Explaining about the theme of the exhibition, Mukai shared that he always feels the movement in stillness in all natural phenomena, and he tries to illustrate these feelings through wood and paper in the most vivid way.

Katsumi Mukai was born in Tohoku, Japan, in 1946. At the age of 18, he started painting and moved to Tokyo to study painting. However, after only half a year, he decided to finish the course and begin his own journey of self-study of art.

In 1971, Katsumi Mukai went to London (UK). Since 1990, he has shifted his creative focus to wood sculpture.

His sculptures have been exhibited in many major art projects around the world. He has also participated in residency programmes in many countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Germany, Canada, and the US.

The ‘Movement in Silence’ exhibition will run until December 1 at Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
