Exhibition on B-52 victory held by Huu Tiep Lake

An exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory opened in Hanoi on December 18.

The event was held in the area of Huu Tiep Lake - where a US B-52 plane was shot down on December 27, 1972.

At 23:30 on December 27, 1972, the US B-52 plane was hit by a SAM missile of the 72nd Battalion, 285th Regiment, and fell into Huu Tiep Lake in Ngoc Ha Ward, Ba Dinh District.

During the cold days of late December in 1972, Hanoi’s army and people resiliently defeated US B-52 warplanes to claim the “Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory.

At the exhibition, the organising committee also reserved a space to display 28 award-winning works by children ofBa Dinh District from a painting contest on “Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air”.

The contest saw the participation of 29 schools and more than 20,000 primary and junior high school students in the district. Within the framework of the exhibition, the organising committee awarded prizes to the contest’s winning groups and individuals.
