Exhibitions mark the 50th anniversary of 'Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air' victory

Many exhibitions celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory were organised across the country.

As an activity marking the 50th anniversary of the historical victory, an exhibition named “Dien Bien Phu in the air – an immortal epic”, was opened at the National Library of Vietnam in Hanoi, on December 15.

Over 500 documents including books, newspapers, and magazines about developments of the battle, lasting for 12 days and nights in Hanoi, in December 1972, by the air defence - air force, army, and people of Hanoi and other northern localities, against US air strikes.

The documents help to prove the Party's righteous direction of the people-based war in the national construction and defence.

Director of the National Library of Vietnam Kieu Thuy Nga affirmed, that the materials introduced at the exhibition show respect and gratitude to soldiers and martyrs, as well as arouse patriotism and pride among Vietnamese generations, especially the young.

The exhibition will run until the end of this month.

On display are more than 200 photos, documents and artefacts, which manifest the smart leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh; solidarity between the army and the people in the 12-day battle, which subsequently led to the signing of the Paris Agreement on ending the war in Vietnam.

The exhibition, “Epic of Dien Bien Phu in the air”, is jointly organised by Military Zone 7 and the Air Defence-Air Force.

Colonel Hoang Dinh Chung, the political commissar of Military Zone 7, said this is a practical activity contributing to educating cadres, soldiers and people, on revolutionary ideals and patriotism, as well as promoting the tradition of the heroic Vietnamese People's Army and building a regular, elite and modern army.

During the battle, the Vietnamese army and people shot down 81 aircraft, including 34 strategic B-52 bombers.

After the exhibition, all documents and artefacts will then be on display at the armed forces units of Military Zone 7 and schools in HCM City.

The books are compiled by authors with practical experience in the field of air defence and air force. In particular, some of the book’s authors, who were directly present at the battle 50 years ago, wrote with their own vivid practical experiences.
