The initial output from the oilfield, known as Tho Trang 3 in Vietnamese, is 164 tonnes a day.
The drilling platform of the field, located in the Cuu Long Basin off the coast of Vietnam, was entirely made by Vietnamese contractors, from design to manufacturing, installation and trial run.
Tho Trang 3 consists of 12 wells with a maximum daily capacity of 3,000 tonnes of oil and 1.5 million cubic metres of gas.
Vietsovpetro said that in order to meet the target output of 5 million tonnes in 2017 and maintain that output for the years to come, the company has been searching for new deposits and quickly put into operation new oil rigs.
Tho Trang 3’s drilling rig was installed in August 2016.
