Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy said that Resolution No. 57, as issued by the Politburo on December 22, 2024, sets out a strategic direction affirming that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are not only decisive factors for sustainable development, but also present the “greatest opportunity” for Viet Nam to become a prosperous and strong nation in the new era.
Given the increasing challenges posed by climate change, resource depletion, environmental degradation, and water security, the agriculture and environment sectors have been identified as “strategic fronts” for driving transformative change.
Traditional agricultural models, which are reliant on manual labour, high input costs, and low added value, are no longer adequate, the minister said. Instead, new approaches such as circular agriculture, multi-value agriculture, green transition, and digital transformation are becoming essential.
“To shift the paradigm, we must transform our mindset and methods, placing science, technology, and digital transformation at the core of our development model,” Minister Duy stressed.
He noted that recent years have seen progress in technological application and digital adoption across the sectors, ranging from high-tech agricultural models and smart livestock farming to automated environmental monitoring and the digitalisation of land, forest, and meteorological data. However, much more needs to be done to meet the ambitious goals set out in Resolution 57.
The conference focused on thoroughly implementing seven key tasks and solutions outlined in Decision No. 503/QĐ-BNNMT, issued by the Ministry on March 27, 2025.
It also provided a platform for participants to exchange ideas and propose priority solutions aimed at creating breakthroughs in applying science, technology, and digital transformation in the sector’s development.
Minister Duy expressed his hope that the conference would serve as a positive starting point for translating the strategic directions of Resolution 57 into practical action for agriculture and the environment.
With strong collaboration from local authorities, businesses, the scientific community and the media, he said, the sector is well-positioned to make a breakthrough and cultivate new drivers of growth in the digital age.
