Football tournament seeks to tighten Vietnam – Laos friendship

The Lao Embassy in Hanoi in coordination with the People's Police Academy of Vietnam kicked off a friendship football tournament between the Lao Embassy and Vietnamese ministries, departments and agencies on September 9.

The tournament witnessed the competition between eight teams from the Lao Embassy in Vietnam and Vietnamese ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the People's Police Academy, among others.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang, who is also head of the event’s organisation board, expressed his hope that the tournament will contribute to strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and cooperation between the two countries.

He also voiced his belief that the comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states and peoples as well as between the Embassy of Laos and the Vietnamese ministries, departments and sectors will continue to thrive in the future.

On behalf of the teams from Vietnam, Chairwoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Trade Union of the Phan Kieu Thu conveyed her thanks to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam for hosting the meaningful exchange activities, which will contribute to enhancing understanding and solidarity between participating teams and between the two countries in general.

She also called on the participating players to promote the spirit of solidarity and sportsmanship in order to deliver exciting games to the spectators.
