In his opening remarks, Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation, and President of the Viet Nam Journalists Association, emphasised that the visit by the FTJ delegation vividly demonstrates the close, friendly, and mutually understanding cooperation between the press communities of the two countries. He noted that over the past year, the Vietnamese press has undergone significant changes — restructuring newsrooms and enhancing the application of new technologies in content production.

The President of the Viet Nam Journalists Association also shared the challenges that the global press is facing, particularly amid the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and fake news. In this context, he stressed, journalism must return to its core values — producing high-quality, truthful, and creative content.

Beyond technological matters, both sides recognised the necessity of strengthening cooperation to report on and investigate transnational issues. Events such as climate change, human trafficking, and the emergence of online scam hubs in the region are strongly affecting national security and society, requiring coordinated efforts among press agencies to raise public awareness.

Faced with these challenges, the two sides agreed that the core solution is to refocus on producing high-quality content while innovatively and creatively applying science and technology.

At the meeting, Le Quoc Minh shared information about a large-scale training programme on artificial intelligence (AI) for journalists organised by the Viet Nam Journalists Association, aimed at training thousands of reporters and editors in the effective use of AI while ensuring authenticity and professional ethics.

For his part, Nakorn Veerapravati, President of the Federation of Thai Journalists under the Royal Patronage of Thailand, emphasised the positive relations between the Viet Nam Journalists Association and the Federation of Thai Journalists over the past 30 years while expressing his hope that this visit would further strengthen the bonds between the two sides.

Nakorn Veerapravati also noted that Thailand has been actively organising AI training courses for journalists and reporters, stressing the importance of fact-checking and verification of information when using data from AI platforms.

Both sides pledged to continue sharing successful management and professional models to help regional journalists quickly adapt to the rapidly changing media environment.

Within the framework of multilateral cooperation, the two sides’ leaders agreed to make concrete proposals to promote cooperation commitments against fake news at the Conference of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) next year in Malaysia and to expand cultural and sports exchanges between journalists from Viet Nam and Thailand.

Nakorn Veerapravati also expressed his hope that Viet Nam would actively support and contribute more works to the ASEAN Photojournalism Contest. In particular, the two sides discussed the possibility of inviting Timor-Leste to join the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists as an observer, reflecting the spirit of openness and connectivity within the regional journalism community.
