Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung said that the report on Hanoi’s 40 years of renewal provided a comprehensive review of the city’s achievements and shortcomings, as well as lessons and forecasts for future development.

Over the years of renewal, Party building and political system in the city have always been enhanced with development in both apparatus, political will and leadership capacity.

The economy has transformed from a subsidised economy to a socialist-oriented market economy, with an average economic growth rate of over 7% per year.

The city has also recorded breakthroughs in administrative reform and improvements to the investment environment.

By the end of 2023, the rate of poor households in the city decreased to only 0.03%, while the rate of near-poor households was 0.7%.

Hanoi has also signed cooperation agreements with 61 capitals and cities and has trade relations with nearly 200 countries and territories, as well as being members of many prestigious international organisations.

However, the city still reveals shortcomings, such as economic development incommensurate with its potential, untapped strengths of capital, technology and high-quality human resources, and the operation of the political system unable to keep up with socio-economic development, among others.
