On the evening of November 16, on the South bank of the Doc River (Song Doc Town, Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau Province), the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province solemnly held the inauguration ceremony of the Monument Complex, marking the event when compatriots, cadres, soldiers, and students from the South gathering in the North in 1954.
On this occasion, the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province was honoured to receive a certificate of recognition from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for adding the historic site as a national historic site.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province Pham Thanh Ngai said that 70 years ago, the South Bank of Doc River was the place where ships carrying tens of thousands of cadres, soldiers and students from the southwestern provinces gathered to the north, during the 200-day and night gathering event in Ca Mau.
The gathering event in 1954 was considered a very significant force transfer, bringing cadres, soldiers, and students from the South to the North to work and study, aiming to train cadres for the Southern Revolution, leading the North to socialism, creating a solid rear base towards the complete liberation of the south and national reunification.
Comrades participated in those gatherings and later became senior leaders of the Party and State.
The monument complex was built on over 10 hectares, with a total investment of nearly 200 billion VND from many different sources of capital and socialisation. This is also one of the projects to welcome the 17th Congress of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, 2025-2030 tenure.
