Ho Chi Minh City needs to promote all resources to develop culture and sports

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a conference to promote investment in projects in the field of culture and sports in 2024, on October 15.

Tran The Thuan, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the city is proposing to call for investment in 40 projects, 23 of which have already been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for investment.

Speaking at the conference, Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that in the coming time, in order for Ho Chi Minh City to continue to promote its pioneering role in linking and developing culture and sports, Ho Chi Minh City needs to closely coordinate with central ministries, branches and relevant localities to effectively carry out a number of key tasks, such as: promoting linkage, development cooperation, enhancing cultural exchanges and diplomacy, and promoting the soft power of culture to enhance the competitiveness and position of the country and the city in the international arena.

The city needs to promote all resources to develop culture and sports and continue to strongly and substantially improve the investment and business environment associated with effectively implementing the cultural industry and sports economy.

On the other hand, the city needs to pay attention to, accompany, support and promptly resolve the difficulties and problems of enterprises; research, develop and implement new specific policies, creating favourable conditions for the cultural and sports sectors to make breakthroughs.

According to Nguyen Van Hung, the city also needs to pay attention to establishing the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Industry Development Centre as a focal point to carry out the functions of supporting, connecting, gathering resources, promoting creative values, and expanding markets and cultural services; as well as to completing the dossier to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema, building Ho Chi Minh City into a cultural industry centre of the Southeast Asian region.

Concluding the conference, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai stated that the event provides an opportunity for the cultural sector to present investment projects in the cultural and sports field, while also listening to investors’ feedback to improve policies for developing the cultural industry.
