Data shows that the number of visitors to Vietnam for healthcare purposes has been rising steadily over the year, generating 2 billion USD in revenue per year.
Recent years have witnessed about 300,000 foreign tourists to Vietnam each year for medical checkup and treatment, 40% of whom are concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City.
To attract more visitors, the tourism department has collaborated with 50 hospitals, medical centres, spas, travel agencies, and accommodation providers to create about 30 medical tourism products.
According to Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, visitors are interested in three services namely overall health checkup, health screening and advanced treatment techniques and traditional medicine.
She added that a guide to medical tourism will be revised with clear and concise information and in more languages for tourists to learn about available medical tourism programmes and experiences.
The city will also take measures to promote medical tourism products in the Cambodian market and learn from Thailand’s experience in developing medical tourism.
