The event, co-organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Television, the Vietnam Cycling Federation, and localities, is among a series of activities in celebration of the 47th anniversary of Southern Vietnam’s liberation, Reunification Day (April 30, 1975- 2022), the 132nd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth (1890-2022), and the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
This year’s event will consist of 23 stages covering a total length of more than 2,000km across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
The tournament attracted 400 athletes from 14 teams, who will start in Quanh Ninh province and finish in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with a yellow jersey and 200 million VND (US$8,600) while the first and second runners-up will receive 50 million VND each. Winners of each stage will also bag bonuses worth up to 20 million VND.
As the host of the tournament for the first time, Quang Ninh is provided with an opportunity to promote the land, tourism potential and people of the locality, while affirming its advantages and infrastructure in hosting national cultural and sporting events.
The HTV Cup 2022 is also expected to help Vietnamese cyclists to practice and gain experience for the upcoming 31st SEA Games, which is slated for May this year.
