The event, co-organised by the marathon’s organizing committee and the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province, is among activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025).
In a solemn atmosphere, the national flag was slowly raised to the top of the historic Flag Tower, a symbol that the army and people of Quang Tri has defended as the heart of their nation for 21 years.
With deep pride and emotion, the delegates commemorated and expressed eternal gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh and remembered the sacrifices of those who fought for Vietnam’s independence.

The 250m2 national flag symbolises the strength of national unity. |
Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People's Committee, Hoang Nam, delivered a speech highlighting that after July 1954, the Geneva Accords were violated, leading to the temporary division of the country and the establishment of the Ben Hai River as a temporary military demarcation line. The Hien Luong Bridge became a symbol of the pain of division and the yearning for reunification, while Quang Tri Province became the most intense and brutal battlefield in the struggle for national independence and reunification.
Hosting the 66th Tien Phong National Marathon presents an important opportunity for Quang Tri to showcase its homeland, people, culture, and tourism potential to domestic and international friends.
