During the working visit, the expert team inspected and conducted assessments at 34 geological heritage sites, biodiversity sites, cultural heritage sites and representative tourist attractions.
Among the notable sites visited were: exhibition spaces showcasing local One Commune One Product (OCOP) products; the Thiet Giao Long Pha Thach heritage site in Meo Vac Commune; the M-shaped Bend heritage site in Lung Phin Commune; the ancient Ngam La tea forest in Mau Due Commune; the visitor information centre in Du Gia Commune; the French Fort heritage site in Duong Thuong Commune; the panoramic viewpoint over Lung Ho Commune; the panoramic viewpoint overlooking Nam Lang Gorge in Duong Thuong Commune; and the Ba Tien Mountain Waterfall and the habitat of the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey in Du Gia Commune.
At each inspection site, the delegation was introduced to the stories behind the outstanding geological, natural, historical and cultural heritage that have shaped the geopark's unique values. These values are being preserved and promoted, demonstrating the significant efforts made by local authorities and communities in conserving heritage while promoting sustainable tourism development.
According to Nguyen Thanh Giang, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the UNESCO Global Geopark Dong Van Karst Plateau, after several days of working throughout the geopark, the expert team successfully completed the planned inspection and evaluation programme. All activities were carried out smoothly, professionally and effectively, thanks to the close coordination among government agencies, relevant organisations, local authorities and the community.
The revalidation mission left many positive impressions, helping to showcase the geopark's outstanding geological features, natural landscapes, cultural heritage and local people, while recognising the sustained efforts devoted to heritage conservation and promotion, tourism development, and strengthening the role of local communities.
The conclusion of the revalidation mission marks not only the end of an important journey but also opens a new chapter of confidence and expectation—continuing to preserve and promote heritage values while advancing the sustainable development of the UNESCO Global Geopark Dong Van Karst Plateau.
