The event marked an important turning point in the cooperation between the two units in the field of education, the electronics industry, and semiconductor IC.

The 2-month training course for lecturers from Thu Dau Mot University is provided directly by experts from Sun Edu and microchip technology corporations.

During the course, the lecturers will receive guidance and practical support from experienced experts as well as access to the teaching materials of large corporations, including Synopsys and Cadence. Thereby, they will be able to develop practical IC design curricula for teaching in the near future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Principal of Thu Dau Mot University, said the highlight of this training course is the lecturers’ access to and use of IC design software and teaching contents focus on practical knowledges that are necessary for retraining practitioners and students.

As soon as they complete the course and pass the examination, the trainees can start working immediately at IC design companies.

Additionally, according to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Thu Dau Mot University will coordinate with Sun Edu and related units to open more IC design training courses to build the necessary resources for the development of semiconductor chip industry which plays a very important role in the economic development of Binh Duong Province.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Head of Saigon Hi-Tech Park Management Board, emphasised that the global semiconductor chip industry has grown 14% per year since 2001 and is expected to reach 1,000 billion USD by 2030. This industry needs to expand its human resources by nearly 1 million people.

Vietnam aims to become the IC design centre of the region and the world, reaching the top 5 in the world by 2030 with the need of about 50,000 workers.

The Southeast region has much potential to develop this industry. Ho Chi Minh City alone needs to improve skills for about 40,000 engineers from now until 2030, equivalent to about 6,000 engineers per year. Binh Duong Province has also a lot of potential to develop human resources for this industry.

According to Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee, the in-depth IC design training course for lecturers is the starting class for the programme to train high-quality human resources in this field, towards meeting the socio-economic development requirements of Binh Duong in the new period.

This can be said to be a good model that takes the lead in the linkage for high-quality human resource training to meet the immediate and long-term requirements for human resources in Binh Duong Province's semiconductor chip industry, contributing to the realisation of the Government's target of 50,000 engineers by 2030 for the semiconductor chip industry.
