>> Over VND900 million up for grabs at int’l women’s volleyball cup
The annual nine-day event features four leading Vietnamese teams — VTV Binh Dien Long An, LienVietPostBank, Vietinbank and Tien Nong Thanh Hoa — and five international invitees — Malaysia, 4.25 Sports Club (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), Fujian (China), Astana (Kazakhstan), and Tenri University (Japan).
The nine participants will compete in a round robin format in two groups, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinal round.
Earlier on the same day, Tien Nong Thanh Hoa won their opening game against Malaysia with a score of 3-1.
A record total of VND900 million (US$42,300) will be up for grabs at this year’s event, with the overall champions walking away with US$15,000 in prize money.
LienVietPostBank defended their championship title at last year’s competition in Dak Nong province after defeating VTV-Binh Dien Long An 3-2 in their final game.
