Chien lauded the comprehensive and positive results in the Vietnam-Japan defence cooperation over the past years, describing it as one of the key pillars in bilateral relations. He underlined the successful exchange of delegations at all levels, the effective maintenance of defence policy dialogue mechanisms at the deputy ministerial level, and consultations between staff officers from the navy, army, and air force.

He also highlighted the enhancement of technology transfer cooperation and the ongoing efforts to address the consequences of war in Vietnam.

As there remains ample potential for bilateral defence cooperation, particularly in areas where Japan has strengths and Vietnam has needs, he asked Funakoshi to make recommendations to the Japanese Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Defence for the continued promotion of practical and effective defence cooperation, thus significantly contributing to the overall strong relationship between the two countries.

Funakoshi, for his part, stressed that the bilateral cooperative relationship is on a positive trajectory, including in national defence. He expressed a desire to further deepen and enhance defence collaboration in a more practical and effective manner, which, he said, would not only contribute to the development of both nations and but also maintain stability and peace in the region and the world.
