Party Central Committee’s third plenum concludes

The 12th Party Central Committee (PCC) wrapped up its third plenum in Hanoi on July 7 after four days of sitting, completing all set objectives.

The PCC discussed and made decisions on the operation of the PCC, the Politburo the Secretariat, and the PCC Commission for Inspection and regulations on implementing the Party Charter, examination, oversight and discipline in the Party, while introducing candidates for high-ranking positions in State agencies. A resolution on the meeting was passed by the PCC.

The White paper: “Vietnam Private Economic Forum – Opportunities, Challenges and Solutions,” debuted at a press conference in Hanoi on July 8, detailing a joint statement and thematic declarations adopted at the 2016 Vietnam Private Economic Forum, including an analysis of general context and firms’ viewpoint on the state of Vietnam’s private economic sector.

It also features major proposals on policies for the digital economy, agriculture, vocational training, distribution and logistics, financial market and capital mobilisation, the support industry, clean energy and energy saving, as well as recommendations on start-up and innovation, industrial clusters, integration and globalisation.

Phong Nha listed among top seven South East Asian national parks

A cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has been rated by the ASEAN travel site GoAsean as one of seven national parks that travellers should visit in Southeast Asia.

According to GoAsean, the park, located in Quang Binh province, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Phong Nha-Ke Bang has the most magnificent system of underground rivers in Southeast Asia. It is also home to some of the world’s most unique forms of flora and fauna species, including hundreds of different species of birds.

Rice exports reach 2.69 million tonnes in Q2

Vietnam exported nearly 360,000 tonnes of rice in June, bringing total rice exports in the first half of 2016 to 2.69 million tonnes with US$1.21 million in revenue, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The figures represented year-on-year decreases of 9.8% and 5.9% in volume and value, respectively. China led Vietnamese rice consumption with 35.5% of the total volume, followed by Indonesia with 13.28%.

Top ten banks in Vietnam announced

The Vietnam Report Stock Company on July 6 announced the top ten commercial banks in Vietnam in 2016, which were VietinBank, BIDV, Vietcombank, ACB, Techcombank, MB Bank, Sacombank, TP Bank, SHB and SCB.

The ranking was based on scientific principles with three criteria: financial capacity shown on financial statements of the most recent audits, media credibility evaluated by means of articles on banking in the media and an online survey about the level of consumer satisfaction with the products and services.

Blood donation campaign aims for 20,000 blood units

Volunteers participating in the Red Journey, an annual blood donation campaign, started their northern leg in Hanoi on July 10 which is scheduled to travel through 12 northern cities and provinces.

Earlier, the journey’s southern leg was launched in Kien Giang province on July 5, with the participants travelling to 15 cities and provinces to promote donating blood. The two volunteer groups are scheduled to meet in the central province of Thanh Hoa and then head to Hanoi for a large blood donation festival slated for July 31.

A total of 130 volunteers are joining the 31-day drive targeting to collect around 20,000 blood units.

Well-known scientists gather at fundamental science and society seminar

More than 250 renowned scientists from Vietnam and countries around the world participated in a seminar on fundamental science and society – one of major activities under the 12th “Meet Vietnam” programme – in Binh Dinh province’s Quy Nhon city on July 8.

The international seminar proposed issues related to fundamental science and society in Asian countries, particularly developing ones neighbouring Vietnam. It also created a place for scientists to discuss with policy makers and representatives of the private sector on the importance of science to the advancement of society.

Peruvian culture promoted in Vietnam

The Peruvian Embassy in Vietnam on July 7 organised a string of activities to promote the culture of Peru in the Southeast Asian nation and forge trade and tourism ties between the two countries.

Participants had the chance to learn more about Peru as the world’s leading exporter of organic coffee; were updated on the land and people of Peru and provided with information on how to apply for a visa to visit the South American nation. There was also a culinary festival featuring Peruvian traditional dishes.
