In line with the action spirit of the 14th National Congress of the Party, the Party Committee, administration, and people of all ethnic groups in Lang Son Province continue to promote the achievements and advantages of the border gate economy, overcome limitations, and are determined to create breakthroughs while consolidating and building an increasingly prosperous and peaceful border region.

The foundation for sustainable development

These days, throughout the streets, wards, villages, and hamlets of Lang Son Province, the atmosphere is filled with celebrating the Lunar New Year, the Party, and the country’s renewal.

Doan Thi Hau, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee, shared: By igniting pride and aspirations for development, with a spirit of unity, self-reliance, and self-strength, the Party Committee, administration, and people of all ethnic groups in the province have strived to overcome difficulties and achieved significant and comprehensive achievements in various fields. In particular, after 40 years of reform, Lang Son has gradually affirmed its role as a “national bulwark” not only in defence and security, but also in the economy, serving as an important gateway for trade throughout the country.

In accordance with the Party’s major policies and decisions, the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee has proactively reformed and developed specialised resolutions to lead, direct, manage, institutionalise, concretise, and effectively implement key tasks and targets. The achievements of the 2020-2025 term reflect breakthroughs in the economy, with Lang Son maintaining positive growth momentum. The growth rate of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached over 7.1%, while GRDP per capita increased from 44.2 million VND (2020) to 71.1 million VND (2025). The average annual poverty rate decreased by 2.95%, reaching just 1.36% by the end of 2025; 6,508 temporary and dilapidated houses were demolished, achieving 100% of the plan.

A prominent achievement in innovation in the province is the pioneering implementation of “digital border gates” and “smart border gates,” with the first pilot model in the country at Huu Nghi International Border Gate. As a result, the total value of goods imported and exported through Lang Son's border gates during the 2021-2025 period reached over 234 billion USD, further affirming its role as a strategic trade hub.

The Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term has set forth important policies, outlining 34 targets, 6 key tasks, 3 breakthroughs, and 7 main groups of solutions aimed at leveraging existing strengths and utilising potential to open new development opportunities.

In particular, the province has identified border gate economics as a driving force for local development and of significant importance to the national economy; while strategic breakthroughs include developing transportation infrastructure, promoting science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate will be developed into a modern, dynamic border economic centre and a national and international border service and logistics centre, which is both a priority in the short term and for long-term development.

Lang Son Province is coordinating with central ministries and agencies to implement investment projects to complete expressways and upgrade and expand regional and inter-provincial transportation routes.

According to Trinh Tien Duy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Dang Commune, in recent times, the commune’s Party committee and government have unanimously led and directed the urgent, decisive, and synchronised land clearance process, with a particular focus on persuading affected individuals to accelerate progress. As a result, the land clearance progress for the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang Border Gate Expressway Project, specifically the section passing through Dong Dang Commune, has reached 98% of the required area. As of early December 2025, the commune has handed over 130 hectares of land to the investor, with a total expenditure of nearly 200 billion VND.

Strengthening the “National Frontier”

Given its special position as a border province, the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee has always determined that socio-economic development must be closely linked to strengthening the all-people national defence posture and the people’s security posture. Looking back at the revolutionary history, from the first Party branch established in Thuy Hung Commune, Cao Loc District, Lang Son Province (now Thuy Hung Commune, Lang Son Province), the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee has continuously grown stronger. To date, the entire Party Committee has 1,211 grassroots Party organisations with more than 71,000 Party members, always ensuring its core role in leading the people to achieve the goals and tasks of building and protecting the Fatherland.

The Lang Son Provincial Party Committee has launched a widespread patriotic emulation movement, encouraging all citizens to participate in protecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and border security, linked with the emulation of “tightening discipline, strengthening responsibility, acting decisively, and achieving breakthroughs” among cadres and civil servants.

According to Nguyen Van Hai, Deputy Head of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee's Organisation Department, the assignment of Party committee members at all levels to oversee, monitor, and support down to the village, neighbourhood, and household level ensures a spirit of close engagement with the grassroots, being close to the people, respecting the people, and serving the people. From the practical experience of the movement, many exemplary collectives and individuals have emerged, becoming "nuclei" for promoting innovation and creativity.

Ha Minh Anh, Secretary of the Ky Lua Ward Party Committee, stated that the local Party committee has built and maintained 52 models of learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh's example, spreading practical methods and actions. The Party cell of Quarter 9 in Ky Lua Ward has 82 Party members. Since 2010, the Party branch has achieved the title of “clean and strong” for five consecutive years, has been a leader in the local “four-good Party branch” movement, and has achieved the title of “cultural neighbourhood” for 15 consecutive years.

They are all at the forefront of movements, proactively applying technology and digital transformation in Party work, creating additional information channels for Party members and the people to monitor and supervise, thereby contributing to increased transparency and effectiveness of the Party committee’s activities and building trust among the people.

According to Duong Cong Do, Secretary of the Party Branch of Tham Pat Village, Bac Son Commune, to strongly spread the spirit of patriotism and mobilise the people to preserve national cultural identity, the grassroots Party organisation, and directly the Party branch secretary, must always set an example and lead the way. The Party branch of Tham Pat Village and he himself have set a leading example, contributing to the successful development of the Quynh Son Village community tourism model, which has been honoured by the United Nations Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism) as one of the “Best Tourist Villages in the World in 2025.”

With strong aspirations and political determination, the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee is striving to build the locality into a growth pole of the northern midland and mountainous region by 2030, and a moderately developed province by 2035.
