Lang Son Province currently has around 164,000 people working in the trade and services sector, of whom 60% are involved in e-commerce. Since 2021, local authorities and relevant sectors have coordinated to implement various measures to build human resource capacity, support businesses and producers in acquiring digital skills, and promote the application of digital transformation in business.
Each year, the Lang Son Department of Industry and Trade organises two to three training courses to enhance knowledge and skills in e-commerce for around 100 officials responsible for state management and law enforcement in the sector, and about 200 enterprises, cooperatives, and production households across the province.
To ensure that managers and workers in the e-commerce field are equipped with sufficient knowledge and skills to meet development needs, the Department of Industry and Trade actively reviews and updates relevant content and proposes timely and appropriate training programmes. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the training courses also include practical sessions, guiding businesses and cooperatives on how to set up business accounts and conduct livestream sales on e-commerce platforms.
As a border province and an important gateway for import–export goods between Viet Nam, ASEAN countries and China, Lang Son is always seekings measures to promote cross-border e-commerce by improving the quality of its human resources. In December 2024, the conference “Developing Cross-border E-commerce: Acceleration and Breakthrough”, co-hosted by Lang Son Province and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, attracted strong participation from experts and nearly 200 representatives of enterprises and cooperatives.
“In recent times, Lang Son has implemented various solutions to support and facilitate access to digital skills and the application of digital transformation in business operations,” said Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee.
At a livestream session hosted by the Lụa Vy Perilla Tea Production Cooperative in Quan Son commune, it was clear how technology has transformed traditional commercial practices. Supported by digital equipment, the cooperative can easily promote local agricultural products through online channels and e-commerce platforms. Thanks to these platforms, consumers across the country now have direct access to Lang Son’s OCOP (One Commune, One Product) specialities such as custard apples, perilla tea and persimmons.
Vi Thi Lua, Director of the Lua Vy Perilla Tea Production Cooperative, shared: “Digital platforms have brought our brand closer to consumers nationwide. The Lua Vy YouTube channel currently has 1,000 subscribers, with some videos nearing 100,000 views. Our TikTok channel has over 26,400 followers. These impressive numbers contribute over 40% to our total revenue and have enabled us to sign contracts with numerous distributors. The Lua Vy brand now holds a stronger market position.”
In recent years, Lang Son’s youth have played a central role in accompanying businesses and agricultural cooperatives, helping them to master e-commerce platforms. “The Youth Union has organised livestreaming sessions to help enterprises and cooperatives promote and sell Lang Son’s agricultural products directly to consumers. Communications campaigns and digital branding activities—led by young people—have helped raise public awareness of the quality of local produce,” said Vu Thi Vien, a member of the Chi Lang Youth Cooperative in Lang Son.
Looking ahead, the Lang Son Department of Industry and Trade will continue to serve as the lead agency, coordinating with relevant departments to develop effective solutions for building a professional and legally compliant e-commerce workforce. Thanks to these practical initiatives, the quality of e-commerce human resources in Lang Son continues to improve.
The most visible evidence lies in the fact that the majority of production and business establishments in the province now conduct transactions using electronic invoices, cashless payment methods, websites, social media and e-commerce platforms to advertise and sell their products. Lang Son currently has more than 21,000 products listed on e-commerce platforms—ranking second nationwide—with over 50,000 successful transactions, placing fourth nationally. Additionally, 229,000 agricultural households have been trained in digital skills, the third-highest figure in the country.
