President Vo Van Thuong made the requirement while working with the Party Committee and High Command of the Military Zone 9 in Can Tho City, on April 22.
The working session was also attended by the Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Do Van Chien and leaders of the Ministry of Defence.
At the working session, the President recalled the heroic traditions of Military Zone 9, during the resistance wars for national independence and the cause of national construction and protection, as well as its achievements in fulfilling international missions in Cambodia.
He added that over the past years, the Party Committee and High Command of Military Zone 9 have made efforts to overcome difficulties and accomplished many achievements in all fields, including military and national defence work, Party building, political work, logistics, finance, technical and military foreign affairs.
President Vo Van Thuong stated that the complicated situation in the region and the world is posing many difficulties and challenges to the cause of national construction and defence, in the new situation, posing high requirements for the whole army in general and Military Zone 9 in particular.
He asked the Party Committee and High Command of Military Zone 9 to regularly thoroughly grasp the Party's military and defence guidelines, and firmly grasp the task of defending the country, in the new situation.

Military Zone 9 must study, evaluate and forecast complex situations, to promptly detect all plots of hostile and reactionary forces, and to make timely plans to respond and prevent and repel them, noted the President.
He stated that Military Zone 9 needs to proactively advise the Central Military Commission and the Defence Ministry and work closely with the Party committees and authorities of the localities in the zone, to address the local defence and military tasks and socio-economic development.
Notably, the State leader also stressed the importance of the improvement of the synergy, quality and combat ability of the armed forces, under the Military Zone.
