More than 44.2 billion VND spent on caring for people in border and island areas

During the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival 2024, border guard forces mobilised 44.21 billion VND from many sources to help disadvantaged people in border areas enjoy a warm and happy Tet.

The money was channelled into conducting programmes to improve the living standards of people in border and island areas.

Under the programmes, the locals were provided with free medical examinations, medicine, and breeding cows. They also joined various cultural, arts, and sports activities.

In Kien Giang Province in particular, the Provincial Border Guard High Command and the Provincial People's Committee presented gifts worth more than 5 billion VND to local authorities, people, and students in the border areas in the locality.

The local border guards also coordinated with functional agencies to provide free health examinations and medicine for 500 local people, construct 20 houses for poor people in the border areas, present 30 breed cows to disadvantaged people, and present roughly 1,320 gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and poor households.

On the occasion, nearly 480 scholarships were delivered to local disadvantaged students with outstanding academic results.

In the fight against crime, border guard forces deployed campaigns to prevent and combat drugs crime, human trafficking, smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods in border line and sea areas, and successfully handled 19 cases.

The forces also addressed a total of 772 law violation cases, and 366 administrative violation cases, collecting more than 29 billion VND to the State budget.

According to Commander of the Border Guard Command Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, in the coming time, border guard forces will continue strengthening patrols in border areas and at border gates to promptly handle any arising situations and maintain social order and security in the areas.

He also stressed the importance to actively participating in community activities and making greater efforts to fulfil assigned tasks set for 2024.
