The opening ceremony was attended by thousands of student athletes from 63 provinces and centrally governed cities nationwide.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son stressed that the festival is the convergence of the sports movement in primary, secondary and high schools.
He said the 2024 edition is the largest ever in the festival’s 40-odd-year history, with 20,000 athletes and officials competing across 15 sports.
The minister added that the Phu Dong Sports Festival is an opportunity for young athletes to demonstrate their ability as well as an occasion for localities to discover young sports talents.
He called on all student athletes to look to a greater victory, the victory over themselves, surpassing the limits and sadness of non-success and celebrating victory with modesty.
The 10th National Phu Dong Festival features events at 19 venues in Hai Phong and runs from July 28 to August 6.
