At the meeting, Quang expressed his pleasure in welcoming the ambassador and his spouse on their visit to Da Nang, particularly on the occasion of the city’s officially announcement of both central and local decisions regarding the administrative merger and the official establishment of the new Da Nang City.
Sharing with the ambassador about the scope of the new Da Nang City, Secretary Quang highlighted key changes since the new city will officially operate on July 1.
Da Nang will become the centrally governed city with the largest area, featuring two airports, two first-class seaports, and a quite synchronous transportation system, seamlessly connecting along the North-South and East-West axes, along with a rich tourism, cultural and natural resource ecosystem.
In addition to the major changes of new Da Nang City, Secretary Quang shared some new points about the city's economy and society, especially the Prime Minister's decisions on the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone and the National Assembly's Resolution on Viet Nam’s International Financial Centre located in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City.
Discussing with Ambassador He Wei some cooperation activities with China, the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee affirmed the significance of consolidating and developing the friendly neighbourly relationship, the Viet Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
Quang shared that in the first months of the year, the city has welcomed many delegations from Chinese localities and organisations to learn and share experiences in building and operating the Free Trade Zones and the International Financial Centre, adding that direct flights from China’s major cities to Da Nang have not yet been restored after the Covid-19 pandemic, affecting the promotion of cooperation programmes between the two sides.
With the potential and strengths of the new Da Nang City, Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, expressed his hope that Ambassador He Wei will continue to support as a bridge to promote Chinese localities and enterprises to survey and promote cooperation with Da Nang in the fields of trade, investment, sharing experiences in building the Free Trade Zones and Financial Centre, and promoting cultural and tourism exchange activities with Chinese localities. He also proposed that the Chinese Embassy in Viet Nam cooperate in restoring direct flights from major Chinese cities to Da Nang.
Ambassador He Wei expressed his delight at visiting Da Nang, particularly with the city having just announced its merger with Quang Nam Province.
After hearing about developments in the new Da Nang City, he highly appreciated the city’s space, competitiveness and development potential, especially the free trade zone and the international financial centre with special mechanisms, which will create a new breakthrough for Da Nang.
At the working session, the ambassador acknowledged the discussions about the cooperation activities between China and Da Nang City in recent time and committed to continue promoting and deepening cooperative relationships in supporting the development of the free trade zone and international financial centre, connecting air routes, and tourism promotion.
