The completion of the monument next year will coincide with the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s first arrival in Russia on his journey to salvage the nation.

Speaking with Saint Petersburg officials on June 15, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi emphasised that 2023 is a significant year in Vietnam-Russia ties, especially for Saint Petersburg, where President Ho Chi Minh first set his foot in Russia.

He stated that President Ho Chi Minh is the one who laid the foundation and assiduously nourished the friendship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union in the past and now Russia.

The Vietnamese diplomat spoke highly of the efforts by the Saint Petersburg government to facilitate the Ho Chi Minh statue project.

In October 2020, a ceremony was held to lay a rock at the intersection between Ho Chi Minh Street and Prosvescheniya Avenue, where the statue will be erected.

At the meeting, local officials stated that they are looking into the proposal to open a Ho Chi Minh Museum or Vietnamese corner at a school opposite the site of the statue.
