According to Ho Xuan Hieu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Quang Tri Trading Corporation, the event marks the first time Quang Tri tung seeds — a distinctive product of the central region’s forests — have entered the Indian market, which is known for its strict quality requirements but also rich potential for industrial oil, paint, varnish, and waterproofing materials.
Previously, tung seeds were a low-value forest product collected in small quantities. However, today, thanks to the organised efforts of the Quang Tri Trading Corporation and the province’s sound strategic direction, the tung tree not only generates high economic value as a new export commodity for Viet Nam, but also provides a sustainable livelihood for the Bru–Van Kieu and Pa Co (Ta Oi) ethnic minority communities in the upland areas of Quang Tri.
At present, the tung-growing area covers nearly 3,000 hectares, of which almost 2,000 hectares are already bearing fruit. A household can earn between 10–20 million VND per year, while larger growers may earn 40–60 million VND annually.
Through rigorous selection and standardised processing, Quang Tri tung seeds now meet India’s export standards, including low moisture content, minimal impurities, stable oil quality, and transparent traceability.
In 2026, the Quang Tri Trading Corporation aims to build a tung oil processing plant and sustainably develop 8,000–10,000 hectares of raw material areas, thereby creating more jobs and increasing incomes for residents in Quang Tri’s mountainous regions.
