At the ceremony, authorised by government leaders, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van presented the prime minister’s Decision No.195/QD-TTg (dated January 21, 2025).
Accordingly, Rach Gia City is a Type I urban area with a scope including the entire administrative boundaries of the existing city. The inner-city area includes the entire administrative boundaries of 10 wards (An Binh, An Hoa, Rach Soi, Vinh Hiep, Vinh Lac, Vinh Loi, Vinh Quang, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Thanh Van, and Vinh Thong); the suburban area includes the entire administrative boundaries of Phi Thong Commune.
Chairman of Rach Gia City People’s Committee Bui Phuoc Chau said that the recognition of Rach Gia City as a Type I urban area is an important milestone marking a remarkable development step for Rach Gia City on the path of economic, cultural, social development and modern urban construction.
Rach Gia City is the capital of Kien Giang Province, playing an important role in the economic, cultural, scientific-technical, tourism and commercial development of the province.
Located in the key economic region of the Mekong Delta, Rach Gia is not only one of the four dynamic urban areas of the region but is also planned to be a regional commercial hub, a modern marine economic and fishing centre of the whole country.
