On the afternoon of 2 April, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Viet Nam Rubber Industry Group (VRG) received and worked with a high-level delegation from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, led by Dr Linkham Duangsavanh, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Laos.
Speaking at the working session, VRG General Director Le Thanh Hung stated that since 2005, the Group has implemented rubber planting and processing projects in Laos, contributing to tangible economic efficiency; at the same time serving as evidence of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos.
To date, VRG has established six companies in five provinces: Champasak, Savannakhet, Salavan, Bolykhamxay and Oudomxay. The Group has invested in three rubber latex processing plants with a total designed capacity of 34,000 tonnes per year. The total rubber plantation area has reached more than 26,600 hectares, of which over 24,500 hectares have been put into operation.
Cumulatively to the end of 2025, total rubber output reached nearly 380,000 tonnes; sales volume exceeded 413,000 tonnes; total revenue surpassed USD 621 million; pre-tax profit reached nearly USD 90 million; and export turnover exceeded USD 530 million. In 2025 alone, output reached nearly 37,000 tonnes, with revenue exceeding USD 69 million.
The Group’s projects currently create jobs for around 5,700 workers, with an average income of USD 350 per person per month. At the same time, VRG has actively supported the construction of infrastructure and social welfare works in localities with a total budget of more than USD 9.5 million, contributing to improving people’s livelihoods and promoting socio-economic development in project areas.
According to VRG’s leadership, based on the Lao Government’s orientations on developing the rubber industry in a green and sustainable direction, the Group has surveyed 73,000 hectares of land in several localities to study the expansion of raw material areas and the construction of processing plants; at the same time expressing its wish to continue receiving support in investment procedures to implement new planting from 2027.
Highly appreciating VRG’s investment results in Laos, Lao Minister of Agriculture and Environment Linkham Duangsavanh stated that the rubber planting and processing projects of Vietnamese enterprises have made important contributions to economic development, job creation and the restructuring of the local agricultural economy.
The Minister affirmed that the Lao Government always supports and creates favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the agricultural sector, particularly in the development of industrial crops such as rubber; at the same time expressing the hope that VRG will continue to expand investment, improve production and business efficiency, and pursue sustainable development in the coming period.
