* Barcelona forward Ferran Torres struck late in the first half to secure a 1-0 victory over third-placed Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday as the home side tightened their grip on top spot and moved a step closer to their 27th La Liga title. With eight games remaining, Barca moved to 76 points and extended their lead to 11 points over second-placed Real Madrid, while Atletico remain third on 60 points.

* Newcastle United obliterated Premier League top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur with a five-goal salvo in the opening 21 minutes on the way to a 6-1 rout at a rocking St James' Park on Sunday. Newcastle moved above Manchester United into third place with 59 points, six more than fifth-placed Tottenham who have also played a game more and whose hopes of a top-four finish now look to be all but over.

* World number two Carlos Alcaraz beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 to win the Barcelona Open on Sunday and clinch his third ATP Tour title of the year and the ninth overall for the 19-year-old. * A pair of quick-fire goals by Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta and an acrobatic scorpion strike from Pablo Fornals helped West Ham United to a 4-0 away win over Bournemouth on Sunday that moved them further away from the Premier League relegation zone. The Hammers are in 13th spot on 34 points, six ahead of 18th-placed Everton and 10 clear of bottom side Southampton, while Bournemouth's shambolic defensive performance saw them slip one place to 15th on 33 points.

* American Lilia Vu beat compatriot Angel Yin in a playoff to collect her maiden major title at the Chevron Championship on Sunday, taming a challenging and unfamiliar course at the Club at Carlton Woods near Houston. Vu started the day four shots back but marched up the leaderboard with five birdies - including two on 17 and 18 - and one bogey, carding a four-under par 68 for a winning total of 10-under 278.

* A last-gasp own goal by Malo Gusto earned Olympique de Marseille a 2-1 win at Olympique Lyonnais and lifted them back up to second in Ligue 1 with six games left on Sunday. The result put OM on 67 points, eight behind leaders Paris St Germain and one ahead of third-placed RC Lens, who thrashed fourth-placed Monaco 3-0 on Saturday. Lyon remained seventh with 50 points.

* Belgian Remco Evenepoel claimed back-to-back wins in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege one-day race on Sunday with a stunning solo ride to victory while Slovenia's pre-race favourite Tadej Pogacar had to abandon the race after fracturing his wrist in a crash.

* Beer thrown from the crowd caused a 15-minute stoppage to the match before PSV Eindhoven secured a 3-0 home win over Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch league on Sunday in another incident involving objects thrown from the crowd. A similar incident on Saturday caused the abandonment of the league match between second-from-bottom Groningen and NEC Nijmegen.

* Inter Milan returned to winning ways in Serie A with a 3-0 win at Empoli on Sunday after second-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez snapped their five-match winless run in the league. Sunday's result moved Inter provisionally up to fifth in the standings with 54 points, but their city rivals and Champions League semi-final opponents AC Milan (53 points) can leapfrog them when they take on Lecce later on Sunday.

* Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum set a London Marathon course record on Sunday, finishing in two hours, one minute, 25 seconds, nearly three minutes ahead of second-placed Geoffrey Kamworor. Kiptum, who ran the fastest-ever debut marathon in Valencia last year, made his break at mile 19, establishing a solid lead to deliver the second-fastest marathon of all time.

* Twice European champions VfL Wolfsburg let a two-goal lead slip against Arsenal as the visitors fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in Sunday's Women's Champions League semi-final first leg. The comeback will give Arsenal a boost ahead of the second leg at Emirates Stadium on May 1 after the Londoners, who have been decimated by injuries, lost captain Kim Little and Leah Williamson to season-ending injuries earlier this week.

* Manchester City winger Chloe Kelly scored two goals in a minute and Khadija Shaw netted her 17th of the season as they beat West Ham United 6-2 to move above Chelsea and into second spot in the FA Women's Super League on Sunday.
