Facing a lower-ranked opponent, head coach Mai Duc Chung’s players quickly took full control of the game, continuously creating dangerous chances.
Despite missing several good opportunities in the opening 20 minutes, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 25th minute thanks to a goal from Bich Thuy.
Just three minutes later, Hoang Thi Loan doubled the lead with a decisive strike, allowing Viet Nam to end the first half with a commanding advantage. Throughout the opening 45 minutes, Indonesia barely managed a single threatening effort on goalkeeper Khong Thi Hang’s goal.
In the second half, the dominance continued. Although Hai Linh’s 53rd-minute goal was disallowed for a foul in the penalty area, Viet Nam still went on to widen the margin relentlessly.
Hai Yen (who replaced Huynh Nhu) scored twice in the 70th and 85th minutes; Ngan Thi Van Su scored in the 71st; Thu Thao found the net in the 80th; and Tuyet Dung sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute.
After two matches in Group A of the 2025 AFF Women’s Championship, both Viet Nam and Thailand have six points. Due to an inferior goal difference, Viet Nam temporarily sit second but are already assured of a place in the semi-finals.
The direct clash between the two teams on August 12 will decide the group winner and determine their respective semi-final opponents.
