This is regarded as a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing the standing of Vietnamese women's football at both regional and international levels.
The strategy targets several key objectives: a comprehensive and professional development of women’s football across all levels, from domestic competitions and clubs to the national team, with an emphasis on raising the quality of tournaments.
It aims to inspire younger generations of female players, thereby strengthening Viet Nam’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The strategy also prioritises the training and development of female coaches and referees, builds brand value, attracts sponsorship for the national women's championship, and boosts media coverage to promote the image of the women's national team.
Furthermore, it seeks to expand school football for girls to increase female participation in sport, especially football.
According to VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan, this strategy is not only a long-term development direction but also demonstrates a strong commitment to the professionalisation of women’s football.
A key highlight is the emphasis on building a comprehensive women's football ecosystem, from primary school pupils to professional players, and from grassroots competitions to international tournaments.
This approach is expected to create a solid foundation and open up many opportunities for girls passionate about football.
Simon Toselli, a FIFA expert on women’s football, commented that the VFF has put forward an ambitious yet realistic plan.
He said focusing on training, expanding the competition system, and building a brand will be a strategic step forward, one that not only improves the quality of play but also creates social opportunities for women and girls.
With a proud track record, including eight SEA Games championships, qualification for the 2022 Asian Cup and the 2023 World Cup, and with strong commitment from all levels of governance, clubs, localities and the international community, Vietnamese women’s football now stands at a pivotal moment to undergo a strong transformation and head towards a future that is more promising and sustainable than ever.
