At ASIAD 20, Can Tho's team made its mark by winning one gold medal and one bronze medal in sepak takraw, contributing to the overall achievements of the Viet Nam Sports Delegation.
A standout performer was Le Thi Hong Lien, born in 2004, who won the gold medal in the women's doubles event. In the final held on the morning of September 29, Hong Lien and her teammate delivered an impressive performance, defeating the Philippines 2–0.
Having started training in sepak takraw in 2016, Hong Lien is currently a member of the Can Tho sepak takraw team's selection squad and has been part of the national team training programme since early 2026.
Alongside Hong Lien's achievement, Pham Quoc Thinh, born in 2005, won a bronze medal in the men's team of three event, further demonstrating the ability of Can Tho's sepak takraw athletes to compete at continental level.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee presented certificates of merit to Le Thi Hong Lien and Pham Quoc Thinh in recognition of their outstanding achievements at ASIAD 20.
The two athletes' achievements are a source of pride for Can Tho's sporting community and demonstrate the potential for further development of sepak takraw in the city. They also provide fresh impetus for the city to continue investing in sport, identifying promising athletes and nurturing sporting talent.
