In her congratulatory message to Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team, Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh expressed her delight at the athletes' performance and praised their competitive spirit, efforts and determination in their pursuit of the women's doubles gold medal.
The Minister praised the team's determination, concentration and coordination, particularly in their hard-fought semi-final against the Republic of Korea. She encouraged the athletes and other Vietnamese teams to maintain their focus, solidarity and determination in the remaining days of the Games.
Previously, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang and Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly defeated the Philippines 2-0 in the women's doubles final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium on September 29, winning 15-8 and 15-4.
The gold medal is Viet Nam's second at ASIAD 20 and marks the return of the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team to the top of the Asian Games podium in the women's doubles event after 20 years, following the gold won by Luu Thi Thanh and Nguyen Hai Thao at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
The gold medal at ASIAD 20 recognises the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team's preparation and performance, while providing further motivation for the Viet Nam Sports Delegation in the final days of the Games.
