The initiative, “Building Safe and Quality Schools for Children in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City,” funded by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) and implemented by ActionAid Vietnam and the Aid for Social Protection Programmes Foundation Vietnam (AFV), has improved education and well-being in the area.

Over three years (March 2021–November 2024), with a budget of over 10.5 billion VND, the project provided 234 computers, three solar-powered water filtration systems, three counseling rooms, over 3,300 library books, swimming lessons for 120 students, and upgraded school facilities. Training on children’s rights and communication skills has helped over 8,000 students and teachers create safer and happier schools.

Le Thi Ngoc Dung, Vice Chair of the district’s People’s Committee, praised the project for aligning with the United Nations’ goal of equitable education. Students like Le Thi Minh Anh have seen real change: “I’ve become more confident and open. Going to school is now a joy every day.”

The initiative demonstrates the power of combining material support and emotional care to transform schools into welcoming spaces for all.
