The ceremony was presented by high-ranking monks from the Central Council of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha, representatives of agencies, departments and sectors of Ho Chi Minh City, and thousands of Buddhist monks, nuns, people from all over the country.
The grand requiem ceremony was one of the key spiritual activities within the framework of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City. It embodied the spirit of harmony, humanity, and the moral tradition of "when drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people.
In a solemn atmosphere, thousands of candles were lit, carrying prayers for peace, safety and salvation for the souls of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Prior to the ceremony, the ritual committee had respectfully invited the spirits of the martyrs from the Mau Than Martyrs Memorial in Nhat Tan Commune, Binh Chanh District, to be enshrined at the altar in accordance with traditional Buddhist rites.
The grand ceremony was held on May 6-7 (the 9th and 10th days of the 4th lunar month of the Year of the Snake), and included various spiritual rituals such as the establishment of the altar for requiem prayers, chanting sutras, and a memorial candlelight ceremony to honour and express profound gratitude to the ancestors, soldiers, and compatriots who laid down their lives for national independence.
