Science and Technology Academy takes lead among Vietnam’s top 10 research institutions

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) ranks first among Vietnam’s top 10 institutions which lead in research output from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 as tracked by the Nature Index.

To track research output, the Nature Index uses article count (AC) and Fractional Count (FC), which measure the number of articles and the contribution an institution makes to an article, respectively.

The AC and FC are based on about articles published in the 82 prestigious scientific journals covering four subjects of Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Scoring an AC of 33 and an FC of 3.52, the VAST topped the list. The second and third places went to Duy Tan University, and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, respectively.

Others in the top ten performers include Phenikaa University, International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, and Oxford University Clinical Research Unit.

The Vietnam National University – Hanoi, Hospital for Tropical Diseases, and Le Quy Don Technical University also made it to the list.

Among the subjects, articles in the Physical Sciences have the highest FC score at 9.77, followed by Chemistry (2.46), Life Science (1.7), and Earth and Environmental Sciences (1.43).

Within the same review period, Vietnam ranked 53rd among the world’s countries and territories regarding the quality and quantity of journals. The top three were the US, China, and Germany.
