Travel has been hampered due to icy roads and heavy mist.

Temperatures in the district fell to below 3 degrees Celsius as a new strong cold spell hit the northern region on February 5.

Mu Cang Chai district authorities have directed communes to swiftly respond to protect the local people, trees, and animals from the freezing weather and avoid further losses.

From the beginning of this winter, 50 cattle in the district have died as a result of the cold weather, including 10 buffalos, 7 cows, and 32 calves.

In a notice sent to the district and Communal Steering Boards for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue on February 1, the Office of the provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control urged agencies to intensify efforts to communicate instructive guides to farming households on how to fortify breeding facilities, keep animals warm, and preserve cattle feed during cold snaps.

At the same time, farmers should follow the production schedule of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and protect crops from the impacts of severe weather, the office said.
