On March 22, the US Embassy in Hanoi, in collaboration with Keep Vietnam Clean, held a film screening and talk show themed “Green lens’ conversations”, aiming to explore the power of cinema in acting for the environment and inspiring positive changes towards a green lifestyle in harmony with nature.

At the event, Holly Lindquist Thomas, Director of the Office of Multilateral Affairs at the East Asia and Pacific under the US Department of State, said the upgrading of the Vietnam – US relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership was a historical milestone, which was built based on the two countries’ common vision of environmental protection and sustainable development.

Themed “Where nature’s stories ignite action”, the 2nd International Nature Film Week features fascinating documentaries on topics related to nature and production. The films were produced in many countries around the world.

Most of the introduced films clearly reflect the current environmental situation and the major challenges that humans are facing, such as climate change, environmental pollution and natural resource degradation. The most prominent is the film "Weather War" by directors Lars Bergstrom and Mats Bigert. The documentary film, produced in Sweden in 2012, highlights human efforts to control and utilise the weather for their purposes.

According to Holly Lindquist Thomas, the film screening and discussion aims to respond to International Nature Film Week in particular and the two countries' goal of protecting the earth in general.

The cooperation between Vietnam and the US is based on commitments to combat climate change, protect biodiversity and promote clean energy.
