Six favourite trends of Vietnamese and Asian tourists in 2025

On the first working day of 2025 (January 2), digital travel platform Agoda updated the latest travel trends through its 2025 Travel Trends survey. The survey results showed that Asian tourists in 2025 will increasingly focus on leisure trips, family experiences, and exploring new destinations. These trends are driving the development of the regional tourism industry.

The Agoda survey noted that Vietnamese tourists increasingly prioritise spending time with their families and seeking relaxation after a busy life. The survey also emphasised that tourists are increasingly interested in exploring new destinations.

According to Ittai Chorev, Chief Product Officer at Agoda, the 2025 travel trends are exciting and these are family vacations and journeys to explore new destinations.

Notably, amusement parks have become a popular choice, with 1 in 8 people surveyed planning to visit a park during their trip, he added.

The Agoda Travel Trends 2025 survey revealed 6 prominent travel trends:

The more the merrier: Family travel dominates

For many travellers, each family trip is an opportunity to bond. According to the survey, 39% of Vietnamese travellers plan to travel with their relatives in 2025.

In addition, traveling alone (20%) and traveling as a couple (17%) are also popular trends. However, the rate of family travel among Vietnamese people is still lower than that of Indonesia — the leading country in the region with 58% wanting to participate in multi-generational trips this year.

Leisure is the top travel motivation

The need to escape the busy pace of life is the main reason why Vietnamese travellers pack their bags and hit the road. According to the survey, relaxation is the top priority (65%), followed by cultural exploration (49%), and visiting family and friends (39%). Notably, Singapore leads the region with 87% of survey participants affirming that relaxation is the main reason they travel.

Technology accompanies trips

Technology plays an increasingly important role in travel planning. According to the survey, 78% of Vietnamese travellers said they would use travel apps to organise their trips. In the region, Indian (89%) and Filipino (82%) travellers are considered the most tech-savvy when it comes to using travel apps to plan their trips.

Combining work and adventure

In addition to traditional business trips, which accounted for 48% of the survey responses, the data also shows that the trend of combining travel with remote work is becoming increasingly popular among Vietnamese travellers. As more and more businesses adopt flexible working policies, the survey found that 1 in 25 people want to both travel and work remotely in 2025.

Notably, the Philippines recorded the highest rate in the region, with 1 in 14 choosing to combine remote work and travel.

Inspiration: Discovering new destinations in your own way

Travel inspiration can come from many factors, including personal interests and passions (84%), available budget (55%) and advice from friends and family (35%). Notably, social media is increasingly showing its strong influence on travel decisions. 17% of Vietnamese travellers said they got travel ideas from social media sites. In Malaysia and Indonesia, this figure reached 29%, with the strong influence from Instagram and other online platforms.

Asia is an ideal destination with a series of famous amusement parks, attracting large numbers of visitors all year round. Notable locations include the Disney parks in Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong; Lotte World in Seoul; Universal Studios in Osaka and Singapore; or Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. Survey data showed that 1 in 8 Vietnamese tourists (14%) want to visit an amusement park by 2025.

Indonesians are particularly fond of experiencing roller coasters or immersing themselves in the bustling atmosphere of amusement parks, with up to 20% choosing parks as one of the must-see destinations on their trip.
