The pencak silat team will have eight opportunities to bring home their first Asiad title in Indonesia with three demonstration finals in the morning and five combat gold medal matches in the afternoon, with the biggest hopes pinned on Nguyen Van Tri and Tran Dinh Nam in the men’s 90-95kg and 70-75kg categories, respectively.

Inspired by long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao’s gold medal on August 27, the track and field team are expected to win two more titles today, with sprinter Quach Thi Lan competing in the women’s 200m final and Duong Viet Anh battling it out for the top honour in the women’s high jump.

In what will grab the whole country's attention, at 4pm, Vietnam’s Olympic football team will kick-off their historic semifinal against the Republic of Korea (RoK) in Bogor. If they managed to beat the reigning Asiad champions, Vietnam will not only qualify for the Asiad final for the first time but will also affirm their status as the best football team in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam’s golden hopes on August 29 are also being placed on judo martial artists with four final matches in the women’s 48kg and 52kg categories and the men’s 60kg and 66kg events.
