Spirit of Vietnamese nation, Vietnamese people

2020 was a challenging year for the whole world in general and Vietnam in particular, as natural disasters and epidemics continuously occurred, with serious consequences for the economy. While many countries in the world are still straining to continue to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic, in Vietnam, the safety of the people and the society has gradually stabilized. The achievements in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic have reinforced the image of a resilient, safe and friendly Vietnam, admired and praised by international friends.

A challenging and difficult year has not weakened Vietnam, but is helping the country instead assert its bravery. Vietnamese people have shown their solidarity and love. As the epidemic has gradually been brought under control, Vietnamese people are as always sharing their difficulties , their love and celebration of the nation's traditional Tet (Lunar New Year). Among them are the hearts that help the poor, policy families in difficult circumstances, and vulnerable people in the society through concrete and practical activities.

From December 2020 until now, a series of programmes and activities have taken place from central to grassroots level towards the poor, contributing to helping the poor have a better chance to not only celebrate the Lunar New Year but gradually stabilize their lives. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Ngai province has allocated more than VND26 billion from the Provincial Relief Fund to assist localities in overcoming the damage caused by the storm No. 9; supporting households to urgently build and repair their houses and soon stabilize their lives before Lunar New Year 2021. In Kien Giang province, in order to help the poor have new houses before Tet, Go Quao District's Vietnam Fatherland Front has built, repaired and handed over 14 Solidarity houses at a cost of more than VND500 million. Recently, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province organised a programme to honour the "golden" heart for the community in 2020 and present Tet gifts to the poor on the occasion of the upcoming Tet season, mobilising nearly VND90 billion from organisations, units, and donors, to support the poor.

Not only helping local people overcome difficulties, but more wealthy provinces have visited and supported people in other provinces. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tay Ninh province has so far given VND2 billion to support the people of Quang Tri province to build flood-proof houses. Gia Lai provincial Red Cross Association has implemented the campaign "Each organisation, each individual associated with a humanitarian address" and responded to the movement “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange (AO) victims” at Ham Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province. The delegation gave 250 Tet gifts to people in flooded areas of Ham Ninh commune. Also in this January, many provinces and cities, including Binh Thuan, An Giang, and Kien Giang have urgently completed Solidarity Houses for poor ethnic minorities and policy families in difficult circumstances.
It is impossible to mention all the activities that have been and are being carried out by the Party committees, authorities, Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organisations and donors every day and hour throughout the country, to help the poor and policy families. In the coming time, especially from now until the traditional Lunar New Year, localities, agencies and unions will continue to organise activities to visit, encourage and give gifts to people. These meaningful activities have increasingly fostered the Vietnamese tradition of embracing, supporting and loving each other.

Over recent times, the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction has always been implemented continuously by the Party and State, being considered a key task. The meaningful activities of sharing with the poor and disadvantaged people as Tet comes, emphasizes the profound humanistic meaning of the policy towards the poor, helping them rise in life and leaving no one behind.

It is the responsibility of each of us to spread the spirit of solidarity as well as that of understanding and sharing. That is one of the key values that make up the spirit of the Vietnamese nation and its people.
